Mommy Dear

Mother's Day was perfect. My darlings signed a recordable card that had their sweet voices inside wishing me a wonderful day. It was a practiced line, and I have no idea how IH managed to pull that one off without me hearing them. But he did--and I pray it keeps forever. IH, with his irresistible charm, also made the guy at Anthro open up early just so he could buy me a gift without my knowing. What a guy. What a great hint-taker.

And...

We went to the movies.
We ate candy.
We got into our swimsuits and went swimming.

'Twas a great day, indeed.

As Mother's Day came to an end that night, IH held me in the pool as he so often does. It made me happy.

Really happy. Like the kind of happy that makes you forget about all the crap that likes to seep into your mind and fill it with doubts, regrets, and worries. Happiness, as busy as it was tending to the needs of so many others, took me in its arms yesterday and kept me afloat. Thank goodness, too, cause I don't float very well on my own.

I buried my face in IH's neck and closed my eyes. My legs hung in the water as I listened to my children splashing and shouting about their impending cannonballs. The water felt cool against my skin, and I couldn't help but be thankful for that moment. That one moment where everything was as it should be, and be it good or bad, I was happy because I was aware of the present--and it was all that I had ever wanted.

*The night before, we took my Mom out to dinner and I snapped these pics of Miss C drinking Perrier and making a very funny face due to the carbonation burn inside her mouth. After a while, she would bring her hands to her mouth and laugh even before any liquid touched her lips. She knew she was being silly. It was the cutest thing EVER to watch her play the game.

Silly girl
