Can you guess what it is? Are you old enough, or granola enough, or cool enough?
Well, to put an end to the mystery, it is Jackson Brown's "Doctor My Eyes," and it is one of two songs (I'll get to the other in a sec) that is constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY played after school or on a trip to the grocer's. I grew up listening to oldies, and as a result, much of that music is now on my iPod or burned onto CD's that are played in the car. So, this is what I hear from the front seat, or back seat depending on how much junk is on the front chair:
Seb: Can you put on "Doctor My Eyes?"
Me: (thinking--oh no, not again!) Sure!
Ethan: Can you put on "Ethan's Doctor My Eyes" after Sebbie's?
Me: (thinking with slight dread) Sure!
No, there is not some song out there called "Ethan's Doctor My Eyes." Jackson Brown didn't have a prophesy about my two boys and how the little one would always try to be like the older one, even needing to have a song to request just like his big brother. "Ethan's Doctor My Eyes" is really Jason Mraz's "The Remedy." And if you haven't heard that song, it's actually quite a powerful anthem. Both songs I love, but after listening to them over and over, I've gotten a bit tired of them.
So yesterday, to change the pace a little, I played "Carmensita". Just as they had done before when they heard it, the boys went crazy. I'm talking head banging, funny-face making, this-song -is-awesome-crazy. Muna was highly entertained sitting between the two of them, and this was my view, albeit a bit blurry, version of it all.

And just for fun, if any of these songs are unfamiliar to you (shame on you if not even one rings a bell) here they are.
This last one is Carmensita. This is what makes the boys go cuckoo. Not sure why....
So there you have it. The music of my life, thanks to my youngins.
Now go dance.
