SuperMom to the rescue

I saved Miss Clementine yesterday.

Now, I've been known to "save her" countless times from starvation and diaper rashes by nursing often and changing her diaper when I smell a funk permeating from her behind.....yunno, MOM stuff. Yesterday, though, I think I may have actually saved her life. Seriously. But I'll tell you right now--I am still a damn good Mommy even if my baby girl almost fell down 6 steps.

Yikes.

Did I just type that?

I mean, she technically didn't "almost" do anything. I was talking with IH in the kitchen when I realized I hadn't seen her in a bit. This happens often, and she can easily be found crawling around like Mowgli in the living room or dining area. This time, I skipped the room searches and made a bee-line for the stairs 'cause I just heard the boys go up about a minute earlier. Sure enough, she was on the 6th step headed towards her brothers when I found her. She easily could've made it being the excellent climber that she is, but she has no idea how to get back down.  So, I almost pooped my pants when I saw her like that. It's kinda like being at the family reunion at the park and realizing your kid is missing, only to find him climbing the high-ass oak tree and he's nearly at the top.

It was scary.
I pulled her down immediately and called the boys downstairs to remind them how very, very, very, very, very, very important it is to close the gate EVERY SINGLE TIME they go upstairs.

I think they got it.

I, on the other hand, more than got it. I have to be more careful, more of a hawk than I already am, and not assume that the boys are doing their part to keep the house a safe haven for Clemmie. That's mine and IH's job.

This wasn't the first "mommy" mistake I've made, and it certainly won't be the last. But it was probably the worst one so far. (Well, unless you count the time that I left the tissue paper in one of Seb's new shoes and he wore them all day and complained about hurting toes and I just assumed it was because they were new and when he got home from school he took them off and his foot was all squished and I looked inside and found the wad of paper in the toe area. Yeah. Or maybe the time that I accidentally locked myself out of the house when Ethan was about 5 months old and freaked out because JD our dog was inside with him and I just imagined JD freaking out if Ethan cried and what would he do? Thankfully the back door was unlocked and JD was just sleeping like the good doggie that he was, but still.)

And even though I can't think of them right this minute, there are many, many more. I'm sure of it. I could probably just ask my mom. I am so not one of those mothers that thinks they've got it all together, but doggonit! I try. I really do.

I'm curious what kinds of mistakes other mommies have made.....hmmm????

(You can laugh about them now--it's ok--promise :-)

I went out our back sliding glass door a few weeks ago and Kaleb locked it behind me!! i totally freaked and starting telling him to unlock it (he knows how to do both, scary, huh?) and he finally unlocked it. After the freak-out sesh I remembered that all I would've had to do was go around the front and use our code to get into the garage. ha! You don't always think rationally in those situations though. You're a great Mommy, Krista!!

Kaleb is such a smarty-pants!

At least he actually COULD HAVE opened it, if necessary. Clemmie would've looked at me like, why on earth don't you just come in already??
