Uh-oh Easter did it.

The girl likes sugar.

No, I'm sorry, she loves sugar. I admit it, I am the one completely responsible for her knowing just what the heck sugar is. Easter didn't do anything. I needed a patsy. It was me.

From the beginning it was me.

And what a beginning it was! Her first food, if it can even be called that, was Hawaiian Shaved Ice. It was amazing, nothing like the large, crunchy, hail-size type of ice you usually find at the county fair. It was smooth and refreshing--like real freshly fallen snow. How could I not give her a try? So what if she was 4 months old?

And that is how it all began.

Interestingly enough, I was always so anti-sugar with the boys. Sebbie didn't drink soda until a couple of years ago, and he and his brother still prefer water over any other drink. He didn't even like chocolate until a year and a half ago, and believe me, I tried all the time with that one! But now with Miss Clementine it's like none of that fussing over sugar even mattered. She gets ice cream when we go to Baskin Robbins. She eats cake at family gatherings. She drinks lemonade at the mall--and it's not-even-watered-down! She even ate almost an entire Peep at Easter. The horror!

So it was no surprise when, at our picnic this week, the girl would not let go of my chocolate milk. If a baby could fall in love, she was past all that. She was head over heels. When I tried to pry if from her hands, I failed.

Then I tried to pry it from her again just to hear her reaction 'cause it was so darn cute.

"Aaaaaa!" OR as I like to translate, "Leave this alone--it's mine!" She is very loud when she wants something, and as much as it makes me squirm just thinking about that quality in a few more years, especially when we're in a library or some other quiet institution, I do appreciate her objection.

And then came the mess.
