That seems to be my personal mantra as of late, and according to my New Years resolutions that needs to change. I have SOOO much to do around here, and putting things off is not going to get me what I want. Instead, it will make me continue to pass by and disgust myself with the seemingly endless piles of laundry upstairs, feel overwhelmed at the task of putting away the mounds of homeless scrapbooking materials that are waiting for my craft room to take shape, and continue to leave clean dishes sitting on my counter waiting to be put away (why don't I just put them away as soon as they come out of the dishwasher??? Oh, that's right--my dishwasher sucks ass and leaves cups and bowls with just enough water at their base to prevent a timely put-away.) Hmmm...that just sounded like an excuse.
Anyway--COMPLETE LATER just isn't acceptable anymore. It's not good for anyone, especially my impressionable kids, and I do not want to be a role model for procrastination. To help me on this journey, I've subscribed to a clutter-free newsletter, and get weekly tips through email from Oprah's organizational guy. I haven't exactly implemented any of their great ideas, but I'm excited to do so. Just cleaning out my office the other day made my entire week. I couldn't believe how good it felt to see the wall behind my computer desk for the first time in I don't know how long! It's sad. I felt like a hoarder, and I probably am a mild-case one, but to get rid of all that stuff wasn't difficult for me. It was like, YES! FINALLY! Get these ugly old computer pieces out of my house and good riddance! This, coming from a girl that used to save everything--including chewing gum wrappers and movie ticket stubs....for sentimental reasons, of course.
But there's nothing sentimental about computer pieces or millions of stuffed animals that my kids never play with. It is what it is....Another man's treasure.
